Dreams are not mere products of our imagination, according to Pastor Joel Engel. He teaches that God uses dreams to speak to His people, establish destinies, and confirm spiritual decrees.

“God speaks through dreams,” Engel emphasized in a recent message. “Where do you think your desire to study, to graduate, to buy things, to improve your home comes from? Every day I wake up wanting to do something more.”

Citing biblical examples, the pastor stated that God reveals what He wants to do with peoples and nations through dreams.

“If God wants to found a new nation, He first chooses a prophet and gives him dreams.”

The pastor recalled that dreams can offer guidance, provision, and generate a change of season. This is what happened with Jacob, who dreamed of speckled flocks and, from that revelation, prospered.

“What is the purpose of the dream? It is to fix in your mind an image that will materialize.”

Engel also mentioned examples like Joseph’s dreams, which pointed to his future as a ruler, and the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker in prison. He reminded the audience that God does not speak randomly, and dreams can carry spiritual direction.

“God does not speak by chance. When the Lord speaks through dreams, He establishes destinies.” “Yes, there are dreams that come because you ate too much,” he said jokingly. “But when a dream comes from God, you have to understand that He is establishing something important.”

Repeated dreams are confirmations

The pastor explained that repeatedly having the same dream can be a strong indication that God is affirming a message. He illustrated this by referring to Pharaoh, whose recurring dream remained a mystery until Joseph provided its interpretation.

“In Biblical Hebrew, repetition is legal confirmation. The dream was repeated because it was determined by God, and the Lord hastens to accomplish it. When God repeats, He seals the decree and announces fulfillment.”

Explaining why some dreams are are repeateded, Pastor Joel referenced Genesis 41:32, when Joseph tells Pharaoh why his dream was repeated: “The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon.”

According to Engel, the Biblical Hebrew term davar refers to this “matter.” A davar, therefore, is a word from God that comes fused with both the action and its accomplishment.

“Davar is an active word; it is the spiritual reality ready to manifest,” he explained. “It is something established by God: firm, decided, irrevocable.”

And he emphasized: “What God establishes is not up for negotiation. If it comes from God, the fulfillment will also be His. He guarantees, sustains, and completes it.”

The pastor also encouraged people to write, pray, and act until fulfillment: “You have to write down your dreams, put them on the wall, set goals, and work toward them.”

Finally, Engel warned that it is not enough just to dream; one must understand what God is communicating. “I studied a lot to interpret dreams. Interpretation is as important as the dream, maybe even more so.”

According to the pastor, interpreting incorrectly can lead to poor decisions, while correct understanding guides the fulfillment of what God has revealed.
